More details later..

Nudity Is Art Says Yemi Alade

Yemi Alade, also known as Mama Africa, defines art as a synonym to nudity, while trying to explain why she usually displays her bountiful body in her music videos and stage performances. The 2009 Peak Talent Show winner was born as Yemi Eberechi Alade and loves to call herself  that Yoruba/Igbo girl. Her journey to stardom has been an upward rise, with amazing songs like Fimisile and Jonnny, to mention but a few, Yemi Alade no doubt, is an all round successful Nigerian musician.

Yemi Alade says nudity is art

While Yemi once accused BET for treating Africans badly by giving the awards backstage, her fans often accuse her of exposing her body on some of her videos. Nonetheless, the talented singer and performer has her reasons for showing off some flesh.

I wont say I support it but, sometimes, nudity is art. Although when it is in excess, these days, it actually doesnt make sense and is no longer appealing. Maybe, at a point, it was but now its grouse. These ladies portraying nudity in videos are grown-ups. They have chosen to do that with their lives and if that is the value of their bodies to them, then so be it. Its grouse when in excess but I love the airy mood, she says.

During her days of little beginning, Yemi used to beg producers to produce songs for her and because she didnt have money, she would have to beg them with fuel to record for her. Eventually, she would be booked for shows so that she can perform her songs, but most times she ended up not performing because the organizers thought she was a waste of time on stage.

But years down the line, her skills, passion and consistency gave way to fame. Luck shone on Yemi Alade about three years ago when she started getting well paid for her works. Her first payment was actually little. According to her, it was twenty thousand naira and her manager had to literarily hold the person to ransom before the money came out. But over the years, everything has changed, as Yemi Alade is on the A list of African female entertainers.

Chicken Skin Really Is Not Bad For Consumption

For years, nutritionists and heart doctors have advised us to remove skin part of chicken before enjoying it for health reasons. While removing the chicken skin before eating it may have some advantages, recent research also reveals that eating it, its also not as bad as was originally believed, as some benefits exist for keeping the skin on the chicken as well.

Why Chicken Skin Is Not Bad For Consumption

It is true that chicken skin mainly consists of fat and  shouldnt be eaten in excess whether  you are watching your weight or not as it contains saturated fat like every other animal food and can increase your cholesterol and heart disease risk but according to the Harvard School of Public Health, majority of fat in chicken skin is actually heart-healthy unsaturated fats.

The myth behind removing the skin chicken before eating it, is that it adds extra calories and saturated fat to your meal but the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Nutrient Database reports that 1 cup of cooked chicken breast without the skin contains 231 calories, but a cup of cooked chicken breast with skin contains 276 calories.

Thus, 1 ounce of chicken skin contains about 3 grams of saturated fat, but provides 8 grams of unsaturated fat and chicken skin contains a good amount of heart healthy unsaturated fat.

In fact, the majority of fat in chicken skin is unsaturated and consumption of unsaturated fat is believed to be associated with lowered bad cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

The American Heart Association suggests limiting saturated fat in your diet to 5 or 6 percent of your total daily calorie intake, which equates to about 13 grams of saturated fat daily when eating 2,000 calories.

It is  fine to leave a little skin on your boiled, roasted, grilled or fried chicken, because there is very little difference between a 340-gram skin-on piece and a skinless one when it comes to fat content and calories about 2.5 grams of saturated fat and 50 calories, to be exact.

The point is this, keeping the skin on your chicken wont drastically increase your calorie intake or your risk for heart disease when eaten in moderation as part of a well-balanced meal plan, but gorging on large amounts of chicken skin daily is not going to do your heart or waistline any favours.

Nigerian Female Doctor Establishes First Ever Air Ambulance Services

Ola Orekunrin, now 30 yrs old is from Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti State, Nigeria. She was born, bred and trained in the United Kingdom, where she became one of the the youngest medical doctors in England. She is also a trainee helicopter pilot.

Dr. Orekunrin establishes first ever air ambulance

According to Ola Orekunrin:
Against all odds, I passed my A-Levels with flying colors, started my degree at the University of York at 15. I supported myself all through, working. I wrote my final medical examinations at 21, thus emerging the youngest medical doctor in England.

While she was a medical undergraduate in the UK, her younger sister became very sick while traveling in Nigeria. The 12-year-old girl, who had traveled to Nigeria on holiday with relatives, needed urgent medical attention, but the nearest hospital was unable to handle her condition.

Ready to save her sister by all means, Orekunrin and her family immediately started searching for an air ambulance service to quickly transport the girl, a sickle cell anemia sufferer, to a more suitable hospital. But unfortunately, their search all across West Africa proved futile as there was no air ambulance service in the whole region. Orekunrin sadly recalled that:

The nearest one at the time was in South Africa. They had a 12-hour activation time so by the time they were ready to activate, my sister was dead. It was really a devastating time for me and I started thinking about whether I should be in England talking about healthcare in Africa, or I should be in Africa dealing with healthcare and trying to do something about it.

Motivated by the painful loss of her sister, Ola Orekunrin choose the latter. The young doctor resolved to forsake a lucrative job in the UK to take to the Nigerian skies and solve the critical issue of urgent healthcare in Africas most populous country.

Strengthened by her determination to make a difference in medical practice and health care delivery system in Nigeria, Orekunrin decided to establish Flying Doctors Nigeria, based in Lagos State. It is the first ever air ambulance service in West Africa, conveying victims of medical emergencies, including industrial workers from the countrys oil and gas sector. It basically makes available critical care transportation solutions to both the private and public sector by selling yearly air ambulance cover plans to states, companies and individuals. Since then, she has succeeded in steering the company to higher grounds in achieving its corporate goals and ensuring sustained growth.

Bridesmaid Hanged Herself After Struggling To Cope With Seeing Her Friends Get Married

A bridesmaid struggling to get over a break-up while all her best friends were getting married died when a 'cry for help' attempt to take her own life accidentally succeeded, a coroner ruled.

Ms Saul hanged herself after her friend's wedding

Business development manager Danielle Saul, 31, was found hanged in her Manchester apartment following a night out with friends in June last year according to Daily Mail.

Friends and family knew at the time that she was desperate to follow all those closest to her by settling down to marry.

However, she was single and said to have been finding it difficult to move on from a previous relationship that ended five years earlier.

After meeting her ex on the night in question, she invited him and his friends back to her flat in Fallowfield to continue drinking.

But when they failed to reconcile and he left the following morning, Ms Saul took her own life.

Her body was found hanged in the flat three days later by a friend who had become concerned after not hearing from her.

An inquest, however, concluded that Ms Saul's death was misadventure rather than suicide. Coroner Jean Harkin said there was not enough evidence to prove that she had died as the result of a deliberate act.

Addressing the hearing, Ms Harkin said: 'It is clear she was experiencing some stresses at work and in her personal relationships.

It is clear that her family don't believe she intended to take her own life.
I must be satisfied that Danielle intended to die by the act. I don't feel I have the evidence beyond reasonable doubt that she intended to die. I believe the evidence points to an attempt.
I believe alcohol may have had an intoxicating impact whereby the full outcome of her actions may not have been totally realised.'

Ms Saul - who graduated from Edge Hill University in Liverpool with a degree in education and art and began working in recruitment - was described as being ambitious, bright and fun-loving when at work and socialising but secretly longed to settle down and marry.

In the years proceeding her death, she was invited to several hen parties and weddings and was asked to be bridesmaid to her best friend.

However, she herself was single and lived alone with her cat, leaving her to sink into a state of depression.

On separate occasions, she sent messages to a friend saying, 'I feel like dying', and a photograph of herself crying.

When the group of friends went out in June last year, Ms Saul bumped into her former long-term boyfriend.

She invited the unnamed man and his friends back to the flat she owned for further drinks but became upset when he left the following day - leading her to believe they would never be getting back together.

However, she was single and said to have been finding it difficult to move on from a previous relationship that ended five years earlier

Friends and family knew Ms Saul was desperate to follow all those closest to her by settling down to marry. However, she was single and said to have been finding it difficult to move on from a previous relationship that ended five years earlier

At some point over the next 72 hours, she ended her life.

Her mother Karen Saul, from Preston, Lancashire, told the inquest: 'She had had a couple of long-term relationships, one of which was around five years ago, and then that broke up but she still had feelings for him and found it difficult.

I think she had an overload that weekend with the upset from her previous relationship. She had met up with that person and I think she hoped they would get back together.
She had a difficult time at work a few months prior to that in her previous job where she had a very difficult bullying boss who got her upset.
I believe she went to the doctors about that in November 2014, and it seems around then three or four of her best friends got married.
At the time quite a number of her friends were getting married and she was going to hen parties and she was going to be bridesmaid and I think she got overloaded with these things and emotionally things became exaggerated.'

After meeting her ex on the night in question, Ms Saul invited him and his friends back to her flat in Fallowfield to continue drinking. But when they failed to reconcile and he left the following morning, she took her own life

No note was found with her body. Ms Harkin recorded a conclusion of death by misadventure

A post-mortem exam revealed Ms Saul had 162mg of alcohol in 100mg of blood, more than double the legal driving limit - raising fears she 'impulsively' took the decision as a 'cry for help'. No note was found with her body.

Speaking of her daughter's possible intentions, Mrs Saul added: 'It might have been a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Had she talked about it we would have been there for her.'

Ms Saul's best friend Lucy Nixon, who had known her for 15 years, said the pair met up before their planned night out on the Saturday.

She said: 'She was very down.

She always used very intensive words and we were expressive with one another. Saying "I feel like dying" would not be unusual.
She sent me a photo of herself crying on Saturday. Going for drinks would be a huge distraction and she wouldn't bring that up. She did tell me in 2014 that she wanted to see a counsellor because she needed to deal with her demons.'

Ms Harkin recorded a conclusion of death by misadventure.

Court Makes Emeka Ike President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria

Emeka Ike is now the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, following a court ruling that stripped actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, of her position.

Emeka Ike now AGN president

She was removed from the position after a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos ruled on March 23, 2016, that Ike will now take the rein of power after a long legal battle.

Femi Durojaiye, the National Secretary of the AGN, made this known in a statement that reads:

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday morning 23/3/2016 at the application and argument of Counsel to Actors Guild of Nigeria, Barr. Peter Andor Oboyi, struck out Ibinabos and BOT suit challenging the nullification of her election to the Presidency of AGN and also challenging the legitimacy of the Presidency of Emeka Ike and his Exco. The implication of this judgement is that Engr. Emeka Ike led Exco remain the only authentic and lawful leaders of Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Court strips Ibinabo off AGN post

The court decision came after eight months of contest over the rightful leader of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

It also came at the heels of a Lagos High Court sentencing of Fiberesima to 5 years in prison for reckless driving that resulted in the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj.

The new AGN President, Emeka Ike, is one of the old actors in Nollywood. He is reported to have featured in over 60 movies.

Manchester Uniteds Player Marcus Rashford to Get New Salary Increase

Marcus Rashford, Manchester United's star of the moment, who on his first match for the club, scored two goals in a must win Europa league clash and has scored important goals against Arsenal and Man-city while still going for his Chemistry and Biology exams in between training, is now set to receive a new contract worth 15,000 per week.

Marcus Rashford to get new salary increase

The boy who has been playing for Man U since he was 10, he has scored 5 goals in just 8 appearances, a good record seeing that just over a month ago he was playing for the club's academy and wouldn't have played if not for injury to Wayne Rooney.

Rashford's salary to be increased

Rashford is set to sign a new Manchester United shortly after the club brought forward contract talks, according to reports.

Rashford was expected to be given a fresh deal in the summer after breaking into the United side in the last few weeks. But such is the hype around the 18-year-old.

The Red Devils believe getting him tied down now will end some of the hype around the player and allow him to concentrate on his development.

Rashford is currently on 1000-a-week but will have his pay bumped up to 15,000-a-week an increase of 1400%.

Queens College Student Sexual Harassment: All You Should Know

Queens College Lagos (a popular all girls secondary school in Yaba) has been trending online now for some days now for all the wrong reasons! It all started when a mum wrote in to Lailas Blog and OloriSuperGal, alleging that a teacher,  Osifiala Olaseni, sexually harassed her daughter.

Queen's College student harrassed

I would like to report the management of Queens College Yaba. As I write, the principal and vice principals have, over a month now, deliberately suppressed several complaints of sexual harassment which my daughter and some other students have consistently reported to their class teacher, their year head, the head of department of the accused teacher and the principals office. My daughter is in JSS2, second term at Queens College. During their visiting day in first term she complained to me that there is an Integrated Science teacher, Mr O- who has been harrassing her and some other students. I asked her if the man had touched her and she said no, he only tells them that they are looking beautiful and he wants to marry them. I dismissed her complaints as typical compliments from a teacher.

However, two weeks later, on Thursday, she called me late at night and she was crying bitterly. I could barely hear what she was saying until after I had calmed her down. Me myself I was scared, wondering what had happened. She told me then that this same Mr O-, who by the way, lives in the boarding house area, had cornered her on her way back from easing herself just before lights out. She told me that he called her and she thought he wanted to punish her for leaving her dorm room when it was almost lights out. But when she got closer to him, he was smelling of alcohol and she ran away from him. But he ran after her and grabbed her and tried to kiss her while touching her private parts. She started screaming and then students started coming out so he left her and pretended to punish her. But the students already know his ways so they started booing him until the housemistress came out and chased them inside, telling them to be quiet and that nothing was actually going on. I told my daughter to calm down and prayed with her and I told her not to leave her dorm room unless with another student.

I got to the school first thing the next day and spoke with the housemistress who confirmed to me that the story was true. but she warned me that the Mr O- is a favourite of the Vice Principal Mrs K-. I spoke to a couple of other teachers and they all confirmed this story and the Mr O-s tendencies. The teachers also mentioned that he had ben reported before at the Abuja Headquarters for sexual harassment and he was almost sacked until he begged this same Vice Principal who squashed the complaints. I went to the vice principal myself and complained to her about my daughters issue. Mrs K- and another Vice Principal Mrs N- were both in the room when I entered. From the looks on their faces, I knew my daughter was telling the truth. Mrs N- soon left and it was just me and Mrs K-.

She then told me (and these are her words) that even though my daughter was telling the truth, O- is her man and he does a lot of work for her and there is nothing me or anyone can do to move him out of the school. She also turned around to threaten me that if I like, I can go to Abuja to report, nothing would happen. And that I should not forget that this is a government school so instead of her or Mr O- being sacked, my daughter would be dismissed instead! As I type this, I have already found another school for my daughter. She has left the boarding house and once their exams are over she would leave Queens College. She told me that this Mr O- sees her every time she has class in the labs but she never goes there alone, only when her friends are with her. She says he always tells her that her mother tried to report him, but in the end she is the one who would leave the school while he would remain. These people wanted to traumatize my daughter!!

They know this man is a child molester and yet they still keep him not only in the school but in the boarding house area where these young girls live. He is free to roam about at night drunk as a skunk and no one does anything because of his connections. Even worse, they now have young men as security guards who, some parents have even complained at the last PTA meeting are already harassing their daughters. I beg you to please expose these people. They think they are bigger than just one parent, but I know one day their time will come. Please feel free to contact me if you need any more details. I hope their evil deeds come to light and they get the punishment they deserve.

****************************************************************************
Reacting to the allegation, the Queens College Teacher Osifala Olaseni denied the claims of sexual harassment by parents and students of the school, saying its mere fiction and work of his haters.

This is a fiction, this must be from my hater. It is a share jealous. I dont live in the school compound, I dont drink and I dont teach junior school. Please disregard this dubious story.

QC sexual harrassment

School Principl's reaction:

When I resumed work as principal here, I was told of a certain matron who housed a person that had attempted to have an affair with a student. I was not here when it happened but as soon as I was told, I made sure that the matron was moved out of the school premises. I have zero tolerance for such behaviour. I have a daughter who schools here, even before I began work here. I will not take chances.

As I talk to you, no single parent has come to me or any of my Vice-Principals to report Olaseni as a molester. I assure you that if the allegation was true, other parents would have been buzzing our lines non-stop. Children spread gossip fast. They would tell their parents or relations, if anyone was molesting them here. No parent would take such news lightly.

When this news reached me, I summoned an emergency meeting of all the critical stakeholders. We all discussed before inviting Mr Osifala. Every one of my staff says positive things about the man. Of course they were all here (Queens College) before me, so they are qualified to assess members of staff properly.

Personally, even before I resumed, a former principal of Kings College had recommended Olaseni as a credible person to work with. His name is Otunba Dele Olapeju. He is a highly respectable man. Let us not forget that Olaseni worked with five different principals, all of who also told me good words about him, despite the various allegations against him.

I have investigated and we are not relenting in our determination to get to the bottom of this case. The man in question has been of impeccable character and committed service since I resumed work here. I can vouch for him.

When I resumed work here, I was told a few unsavoury things about him. But investigations showed that each time a new principal resumed at Queens College, these allegations popped up. They would tell every new principal that Mr Olaseni is a molester. But after investigations, nothing concrete came up. My predecessor, whom we just sent forth today, told me the same thing. So it has been a recurring decimal, these allegations.

We have come to understand that some persons are on a campaign of calumny against this teacher. Yet, he is the best teacher in our school. During World Teachers Day, he bagged five awards. The students all have good things to say about him. Somebody somewhere is up to some mischief and we will uncover this unfortunate drama.

We place a premium on the security and welfare of our girls. We are all mothers. We will not allow any staff to endanger girls in this school.

I urge the general public to always endeavour to confirm the stories they read on social media. Not everything they read there is true.

I have quietly observed Olaseni over time. I have X-rayed his relationship with students and I have not found him wanting. The same students he has been accused of molesting, are the ones who voted him their best teacher.

The PTA Chairman is an external person, and she attests to the character of the accused teacher. It did not take long for me to see why the past principals recommended him. He is extremely committed to his job and some people are ready to bring him down.

I read the story on social media. I trust the public to read between the lines. There are too many inconsistencies with the story. Nothing is hidden in this school. If, like the story said, students came out at night to boo the molester, do you think that before dawn, the story would not have spread like wild fire? And for a whole month, nobody reported to me? It is not possible.

There are approved channels of communication here. If the parent actually went to the Vice-Principal and was turned down, did the person ever come to me? No parent here can ever say that they are afraid of coming to me. Yet I never heard of this story until today. That is not possible.

Again, a part of the story alleged that one of my Vice-Principals threatened the parent to go to Abuja, and that nothing will come out of it. I smiled when I read that part. No right thinking person would have made such a comment. I have been here long enough to know what each one of my staff are capable of saying. There is no way an administrator of her calibre would say that.

This seems like an attempt to ridicule, not just Mr Olaseni, but the hard-earned reputation of Queens College. We are consulting with relevant stakeholders and we will get to the bottom of this.

    AKHETUAMEN B.E (Mrs):

I am the Chairperson of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA). I represent the best interests of parents of the children in this school. I have two daughters schooling here. After six years in the school, I should be able to trust them to intimate me about things that happen in the school, especially when I ask. They have made it clear to me, no such thing occurred.

Meanwhile, no parent has called me to make any such allegation against the teacher in question and I find it very strange.

I know Olaseni as a teacher who has respect for constituted authority. Knowing how the school community works, I assure you that if such a thing has happened, the students themselves would have given the matter leverage. It would not have needed a blogger to break the story. There is a policy against use of phones in the college but we hear rumours that some students smuggle in phones. Do you imagine that such students would not have called their parents with the gist? And for all this time that the event allegedly occurred (one month now) do you think that no parent would have raised eyebrows?

When I asked my daughter about this story, she said she only started hearing about it today. I am an Edo woman, I speak from my heart because I fear only God. Even if I face anybody now, I can defend him (Olaseni) authoritatively. I have always recommended him to every principal that was posted here. Even the current principal will confirm that I spoke positively about this teacher to her. He always seeks to correct everything going wrong within the school. He is fearless. He never abdicates his duties and I say this with a sense of pride.

I wonder who would want to pull him down. We are looking into this matter and we will involve the Police.

    VICE-PRINCIPAL (SENIOR SCHOOL):

These are all false allegations. Even with some past principals, similar allegations were made against the young man. Yet they all worked happily and successfully with him, enough to make them recommend him to their successors. Even the principal we are sending forth today, Mrs Osime, can clarify this. It is all crooked lies.

How can you make such a weighty allegation and not be able to tell us who the child is? And if you see what is written in the allegation, you will know that they are all lies. For starters, Mr Olaseni does not live on the school premises. So how can he be responsible for molesting a child by 2am?

Again, he teaches Biology. The story says he teaches Integrated Science. That is a lie. He also does not teach junior school as alleged in the story. Biology is offered in the senior school. To the best of our knowledge, Olaseni does not drink alcohol. So there are some fundamental lies that already give away the fact that someone is being funny somewhere.

We have investigated. We tried to find out from our boarding house mistresses about the said event, one month ago. You can ask around at your own convenience, there is no record of such a thing.

About the allegation that I told the parent to go to Abuja, how is that possible? How can I tell a parent that, when no parent has even come to me with such a report? Did I threaten a ghost?

The story also said that the alleged victim tried to call her mother that night. Since phones are not even allowed in the school, how is that possible? We do not know yet, the alleged parent nor the student.

    Our investigations continue.

    SENIOR BOARDING HOUSE MISTRESS:

I am Mrs D. A Oludinmu. I am the senior boarding house mistress of Queens College, Yaba. Yes, I admit that Mr Olaseni comes around the hostel because he is the Hostel Maintenance Officer. But there is a procedure for that. He never comes without the permission of the principal and even during emergencies, he does not come alone. The principal still has to permit him, and he always comes with the maintenance boys.

Mr Olaseni does not come to the hostel outside working hours. I can vouch for him.

    HEAD GIRL:

The story has it that Mr Osifala lives in the school compound. No male staff lives within. They also said they saw our teacher with alcohol after lights out. This cannot be true because he speaks against alcohol in class. He is our Biology teacher, not Integrated Science.

Knowing him from J.S.S 1 to S.S. 3 now, I can say that the allegations are wrong. No, I just heard the story this morning. My statement cannot be doctored.
Yes, we complain to him when we have problems in the hostel. These problems include bad electric bulbs, water problems, etc.

    OLASENI (THE ACCUSED):

I am worried about this matter because there is no truth in it. It is not the first time I have been accused falsely. Students have openly confessed to being recruited to frame me up in the past. The teachers were there. They can tell you the truth. All I want is to be the best teacher I possibly can. The reason I always win the awards is a function of my drive for excellence.

It ensures that I am always busy. My work is not secret. I am an open book. I know that whatever I say now will not matter to those who have made up their minds to judge me. Let God take control.

 ***********************************************************
As at the time of this report, two girls have now  gainst Osifala, confirming allegations that he is a sexual molester but the school authorities allegedly said the girls have no evidence.

Stage Sensation Waka Becomes The First Nigerian Musical To Hit London

Its big, its bold and its politically charged. Brace yourselves: Wakaa! The Musical is coming.

Stage sensation

The hit Nigerian show by Bolanle Austen-Peters is due to transfer to Londons West End in July, making it the first Nigerian musical to make it to the British capital.

Its no small feat to land a slot in Londons world-class theater district, but the sell-out musical by Terra Kulture has pedigree, playing to 10,000 people over twelve shows in Lagos earlier this year. The show was so popular during its first stint, people were offering to pay to stand in the aisles, according to Austen-Peters.

That wasnt permitted of course, nor will it be at the Shaw Theater on July 22, when it opens its doors once more. So what can the theater-goers of London expect?

Describing itself as a play about the trials, successes and experiences of young graduates from varied backgrounds, Wakaa! The Musical follows the fate of a group of friends after a wager is struck at graduation. Set to popular music, its part social commentary, part satire, but all singing and dancing.

Austen-Peters turned to musicals just two years ago. The trained lawyer and businesswoman had been in the theater industry for 12 years, but a trip to Broadway turned her attention to the stages most flamboyant genre.

I was inspired by watching Fela!, she says. I thought: these are Nigerian stories, we should be telling them.
Saro: The Musical was Austen-Peters first musical venture, priming Nigerian audiences for Wakaa!, her second genre piece to take to the stage.
Big musicals in Lagos its something thats never been done before, she says. Were opening up a landscape, and aiding artists who have never had a platform before.

Like Rex, one of the characters in her play, Austen-Peter says that Nigerian performers who have trained abroad often struggle to find success away from home. Now shes proving they can have success on home soil and take it abroad.

We should start exporting products, especially culture, from Nigeria, she argues, adding that the Nigerian Ministry of Culture has been one of her supporters in the transition to the English stage.

Political satire is never far from sight in Wakaa!, and Austen-Peters reveals that four of the musicals characters are based in part on prominent figures from within the Nigerian political sphere. She wont reveal all the names, but admits a character very influential, but not particularly educated was inspired by Patience Jonathan, the wife of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Its very critical its a social commentary, she says, although argues that it is not confrontational in its tone. Its an approach thats won her many fans, including current president Muhammed Buhari, who caught a performance earlier this year.

Austen-Peters sees the burgeoning genre of Nigerian musicals as an opportunity, and says that central to her motivation is that were creating lots of jobs something Ive always wanted to do. Previously outsourced cottage industries such as costume designing are now being done in-house, as well as training for technical roles.

We can rival any of the big institutions in the world, she argues. I believe we can do exactly what is being done in England and America.

If you are in London this summer, make it a date with WAKA at the Shaw Theatre, 100-110 Euston Road, London.

DATES: July 22 - 24, 2016.

Photographer Sues 2face Idibia & Wife for N120m Over Wedding Photos Copyright

A photographer, Mr. Emmanuel Okolo, has filed a N120m copyright infringement suit against musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face, and wife, Annie.

Photographer sues 2baba

The photographer sued the couple and one Mr. Anthonio Anifite before Justice Mohammed Idris of a Federal High Court in Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants made use of some photographs he took at the traditional wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Idibia in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in 2013 without duly attributing the works to him or
acknowledging him contrary to an alleged agreement.

The photographer, who sued alongside his company, Papilonmexy Films Studios Limited, claimed that the defendants wrote 2faceonline.com across 148 out of the 355 high-resolution photographs he took at the couples wedding and uploaded them on 2faces official website, thereby denying him credit and referral opportunities.

He claimed that days after the wedding, Annie called him on the telephone requesting copies of the wedding photographs and that upon sending them to her, Annie complained about the watermark of Papilomenxy studios reflecting on them.

According to the photographer, Annie later sent the 2nd defendant to negotiate with the photographer on the terms that the photographs should be released without watermarks.

The photographer claimed to have then released 355 high-resolution photographs from the wedding to Anifite free of charge on the agreement that whenever and wherever they were used, the copyright would be credited to his company.

He, however, claimed that the defendants breached the terms of the signed agreement and went ahead to write 2faceonline.com across 148 of the photographs that they uploaded on 2faces official website.

The photographer, who described himself as a certified film maker from the prestigious London Film Academy and a holder of a Masters of Arts degree from Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries, South Wales, United Kingdom, claimed to have suffered general and exemplary damages for which he is seeking N120m compensation from 2face, Annie and Anifite.

Tubaba sued

But the defendants have not only urged Justice Idris to dismiss the photographers suit but they also filed a counterclaim wherein they demanded N150m damages from him and his studio.

They claimed that the photographer crashed into the venue of their traditional wedding, took pictures and circulated same for commercial gains without their permission.

They claimed that he was not invited but was just one of the numerous photographers and pseudo-professionals and artisans, who invaded the venue of the ceremonies to eke out a living for themselves without prior consultation with or the consent of the celebrants.

They claimed that soon after their wedding, they noticed some strange versions of their wedding pictures circulating online with Papilonmexy studio watermark and after painstaking findings, they traced them to the photographer.

They claimed that upon locating the photographer and expressing their displeasure, he pleaded with them while lamenting that he was hard hit by a downturn in the still photography business and sought any future engagement with them.

They claimed that the photographer forced the photographs on them, saying he wanted to leverage on their popularity to get referrals.

They, however, claimed that they told him categorically that the only condition on which they could accept the photographs was for him to remove the watermarks of his company, which he allegedly agreed to.

They, however, said they were shocked when after uploading the photographs, the photographer wrote a pre-litigation letter to them demanding that his watermarks be boldly inscribed across the photographs and a letter of apology.

But they claimed to have immediately pulled down the photographs because having Papilonmexy watermarks on some pictures on 2faces official website would distort the original idea of the website.

They accused the photographer of having a premeditated plan to blackmail and extort money from them.

The second plaintiff (Okolo), through his several guile, deceit, cunning gate-crashing and opportunistic posturing carefully planned and orchestrated the entire events leading to the institution of this suit with the express intention of embarrassing, harassing and blackmailing the first and third defendants (Annie and 2face) with a view to extorting money from them, the further claimed in their counter-claim.

They, however, urged the judge to order Okolo and his studio to pull down all the photographs of them that the photographer had circulated.

They are also praying the court to order Okolo and his studio to render forthwith, account as well as make full and frank disclosure of all sums and profit made by them as a result of unauthorised commercial usage of their photographs.

They are demanding 150 million Naira damages and an order of perpetual injunction restraining Okolo and his studio from further commercialising their photographs.

CCT Trial: Saraki was Never Given A Chance to Kneel Down and Apologize Lawyer

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has fixed Thursday, March 24, to determine the merit of the application seeking to stop it from commencing hearing on the 13-count criminal charge pending against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Saraki in court

Saraki through his lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, argued that he was never accorded the opportunity to clarify the alleged discrepancies that were discovered in four assets declaration forms he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, while he was in office as the governor of Kwara State.

He said the laws that established the CCB stipulated that any one perceived to have falsely declared his assets, must be summoned to give explanations.
The defendant was never afforded such opportunity, not even a chance to kneel down and apologise, Agabi submitted.

Saraki who was among other things, accused of declaring false assets, through his lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, ?challenged the powers of the Attorney General of the Federation to initiate the charge against him.

In urging the tribunal to hand-off the case, Saraki, who stormed the tribunal with 80 lawyers and over 60 Senators, insisted that his trial was politically motivated.

He contended that all the allegations against him were brought before the CCT in bad-faith, saying his trial was not in public interest. Saraki ?argued that the AGF did not fulfil all the condition precedents capable of conferring jurisdiction on the tribunal to try him.

Consequently, he applied for the charge to be quashed and for the tribunal to discharge him. Agabi insisted that his client was not granted fair hearing, saying the instant application was totally different from what was earlier decided by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the prosecution, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, asked the tribunal to dismiss the application which he said was only aimed at scuttling the trial of the defendant.

Jacobs relied on sections 220, 221 and 396 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, and argued that the law provided that such applications must be considered along with the substantive case, and ruling delivered at the end of the trial.

It is unfortunate that the defendant is making every effort to turn this trial to childs play. ? His argument before was that there was no Attorney General of the Federation when the charge was filed, now that there is an AGF he had turned round to argue that the AGF has no power to file charge against him.
It is our position that this application has no merit whatsoever, and same should be dismissed with substantial cost, Jacobs added.

The prosecution equally faulted the defence lawyer for citing the provision of 1979 constitution, which he said had gone obsolete with the enactment of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

The two-panel tribunal headed by Justice Danladi Umar, adjourned for ruling after it entertained arguments from the federal government which is prosecuting the case, and Sarakis lawyer. ?

Meanwhile, Justice Umar, noted that in view of the fact that the application borders on the issue of jurisdiction of the tribunal to hear the matter, he said there was need to determine its merit first.

Saraki who was a two-term governor of Kwara State b?etween May 2003 and May 2011, was in the charge before the CCT, marked ABT/01/15 and dated September 11, 2015, accused of ?breaching section 2 of the ?CCB and Tribunal Act, an offence punishable under section 23(2) of the Act and paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Aside allegation that he falsely declared his assets, as well as, made anticipatory declaration of assets,Saraki, was also alleged to have operated foreign bank accounts while in office as a public officer. He was alleged to have acquired assets beyond his legitimate earnings.

FG, among other offences, alleged that Sarakiclaimed that he owned and acquired No 15A and 15B Mc Donald, Ikoyi, Lagos, through his company, Carlisle Properties Limited in 2000, when the said property was actually sold by the Implementation Committee of the Federal Government landed properties in 2006 to his companies, Tiny Tee Limited and Vitti Oil Limited for the aggregate sum of N396, 150, 000, 00.

He was alleged to have made false declaration on or about June 3, 2011, by refusing to declare plot ?2A Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, which he acquired between 2007 and 2008 through his company from the Central Bank of Nigeria for a total sum of N325, 000, 000, 00. Saraki was said to have refused to declare No1 Tagnus street, Maitama, Abuja, which he claimed to have acquired in November 1996 from one David Baba Akawu.

Some of his alleged offence while in office as governor, which are said to be punishable under section 15(1) and (2) of the CCB and Tribunal Act, Cap C15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, were allegedly committed between October 2006 and May 2007.

His actions were classified as a gross violation of the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended. Saraki had on September 22, 2015, pleaded not guilty to the charge which he said was grossly incompetent and ought to be quashed.

UTME: Return to Pencil-Paper Examination Reps tell JAMB

THE HOUSE of Representatives, yesterday, ordered the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to return to the former pencil-paper method in conducting examinations for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

JAMB

The House said the alleged technical flaws recorded in the latest computer-based Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) had exposed JAMBs lack of capacity to handle the computer-based tests.

It also ordered JAMB in the alternative to conduct both computer-based tests and pencil-paper examinations simultaneously for candidates to  opt for anyone of their choice.

The lawmakers passed the resolution after Mr. Oghene Emma-Egoh moved a motion on the conflicting scores of candidates who took the examination.

He noted that besides the conflicting scores resulting from the technical flaws, it was obvious that many candidates could not pass the examination for the simple reason that they were not computer-literate.

Emma-Egoh, who expressed the fear that many of the students were not computer literate, also argued that the hopes of many intending students had been dashed due to the technical errors.

Also, the House began an investigation into the alleged secret recruitment of 909 employees by the Central Bank of  Nigeria (CBN).

The apex bank on the order of its Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, reportedly carried out the alleged recruitment.

The beneficiaries of the controversial recruitment were said to be children and relatives of influential Nigerians across the country.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara had mandated Committees on Federal Character, Banking/Currency to commence and complete the investigations within three weeks.

Under matters of urgent public importance, Mr. Aliyu Madaki, had drawn the attention of the House to the recruitment.

Madaki noted that there were no prior notifications on the recruitment through advertisements to give Nigerians the  opportunity to apply.

He recalled that there were speculations that CBN conducted secret recruitment in 2015, which it quickly denied, adding that the latest allegation only confirmed that the bank actually recruited.
The recruitment by the CBN is in breach of the Federal Character Principle as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The recruitment breached Section 14(1); 14(3); and Section 17(1) of the constitution.
There was no fairness, no justice in this exercise conducted by the CBN.
Dogara had overruled any debate on the issue on the grounds that it could pre-judge the outcome of the investigation. This is an investigation; let us not allow any debate so that we wont pre-empt its outcome, he said.

APC Plotting to Incite Violence, State of Emergency in Rivers PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of plotting to impose a state of emergency on Rivers state by inciting violence in the state.

The PDP national leadership in a statement issued by Olisa Metuh, its spokesman, on Thursday, warned that
dire consequences would follow any attempt by the APC to push its plot to impose a state of emergency in the oil-rich state.
The party according to vanguard said it had also rallied all its formation in the state to stiffly resist by all means necessary in a democracy any move by the APC to scuttle the Saturdays national and state assembly rerun elections in the state.
The party is privy to a grand design by the APC to orchestrate violence in the state with a view to truncating the elections, having realised that the PDP and its candidates are more popular and ready to win overwhelmingly in all the reruns,
We are aware that the orchestration of violence is designed to serve as stimulus for the planned imposition of a state of emergency to enable the APC forcefully take over the state which it failed to get through the ballot box. We also know the design to unleash violence is behind the recent infamous call by APC spokesman in Ondo state, Omoba Abayomi Adesanya for emergency rule in Rivers state.
What else, apart from the execution of this plot explains the complains from our candidates and members in Rivers state of constant threats by partisan security operatives as well as the recent gale of arrests, attacks and killing of PDP supporters in the state?
But let it be known that Rivers state is a stronghold of the PDP and that such profane quest would be squarely and comprehensively greeted with intense resistance and very dire consequences.
Our position is guarded by the fact that we remain a responsible and law-abiding party committed to the sanctity of our electoral process, the interest and will of the Nigerian people. Besides, we have the numbers and the people of Rivers state are solidly behind us.
It is on this note that we totally welcome President Muhammadu Buharis warning to those instigating violence and causing mayhem in Rivers state. It is our belief that the presidents warning is more directed to APC supporters who have shown unique thirst for violence.
The hallmark of democracy is the inalienable rights of the citizens to freely choose their leaders; vote and be voted for, and we believe this right must be fully protected at all times.
While we expect the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use Saturdays polls to redeem its image by ensuring that the elections were not only credible but also conclusive, we support the people of Rivers state in their demonstrated resolve to stand up and use all lawful means necessary in a democracy to defend their votes in the reruns as well as protect the state government they voted for.

Trials for Corruption Resumes in Court for Senate President Bukola Sariki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has arrived the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is facing charges of alleged false asset declaration and corruption.

Senate President Bukola Sariki in court

Mr. Sarakis bid to thwart the trial failed after the Supreme Court ruled that the tribunal had powers and was properly constituted to hear the case against Mr. Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State.

Last Friday, the tribunal adjourned the case by a week.

The tribunal took the decision after Mr. Sarakis new lawyer, Kanu Agabi, asked the judges to rule first on the senate presidents objection to the powers of the tribunal to try him.

Mr. Saraki arrived the tribunal at 9: 54 am on Friday.

His counsel, Mr. Agabi, said there were 80 lawyers on his team, saying his client would surely emerge winner in the event of a voting contest.

We are 80 of us on this side, my lord, he said. At some point let the matter be put to vote.

The prosecution lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, said the defence team had served him with a notice of a motion requesting that the charge be quashed.

He said based on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the new application was not ripe for hearing.

Mr. Jacobs said the sections clearly state that such objection shall not be raised.
